Overkill Frog

Fully-dressed topwater frog that walks and pops

The Overkill Frog is a topwater frog fly tied on a shank with a tube “backpack” that lets the hook sit in the middle of the fly and slip free when fighting a fish. It rides hook-point up, walks side to side, and causes a commotion on the surface.

For two years I experimented with variations of this frog. A good frog fly has to fish through lily pads and stick-ups, hook up as often as possible, and push water — subtle or loud as needed. Through dozens and dozens of revisions this pattern got there. It’s fancy, fully dressed out, and time-consuming to tie — but it’s unique and an absolute blast to fish.

Overkill Frog appears in drops when a batch comes off the vise. Each batch is unique and limited.
